Leave of Absence (Freezing Registration)

Is it possible to take a leave of absence (freeze registration) for any reason?

Students may be granted a leave of absence for up to two semesters upon the approval of the Administrative Board, provided they submit an application petition along with supporting documents proving compelling reasons, or external opportunities that contribute to their education (such as scholarships, internships, research, etc.), to the Vocational School Directorate before the start of the semester. Students may be granted leave for these reasons only once during their study period. Except for the student's first semester of enrollment, tuition/contribution fees are not collected from students granted leave by the decision of the Vocational School Administrative Board. Periods spent on leave are not counted toward the maximum duration of education.

How should I submit my request for a leave of absence (freezing registration)?

Students must fill out the "Request Petition for Freezing Registration (Leave of Absence)" found under the "Forms & Petitions" tab in the "Student" menu on the website of Balıkesir University Edremit Vocational School. After signing it with a wet signature and attaching documents proving their justification, they must submit it to the Vocational School Directorate before the start of the semester. Requests will be evaluated and decided upon by the Vocational School Administrative Board. Students may submit their petition and supporting documents in person, or through their legal representative, a power of attorney issued by a notary, or a legal guardian authorized by judicial authorities.

What is the maximum duration a student with a valid justification can freeze their registration?

A student can freeze their registration for a maximum of two semesters.

Is there a difference between freezing registration and not registering?

Yes. Periods spent on an approved leave of absence are not counted toward the overall duration of education, whereas simply failing to register results in a loss of time within the maximum allowed period of study.
