Foreign National Student Health Insurance (or Health Insurance for Foreign National Students)
/IN THIS SECTION
International students are obligated to be insured during their stay in Turkey. Please follow your health insurance procedures very carefully to avoid encountering any problems and accumulating debt due to healthcare expenses in the future. When your Health Insurance expires, you must renew it as soon as possible and notify the Directorate of Migration Management. Renewing your health insurance is vital for your health and to avoid legal issues.
The General Health Insurance (GSS) provided by the Social Security Institution is recommended by our university, but students may also opt for private health insurance. If you wish to have private health insurance, you must regularly extend your insurance policy.
To have GSS, you need to apply to the Provincial Directorate of Social Security or the Social Security Center (SGM) of your district of residence within 3 months after the registration date (first university registration) once you have received your foreign ID number. The annual GSS premium for 2024 is approximately 9600 TL. The address of the application unit and the required documents are located at the end of this page.
For the GSS application, after your residence permit card has reached you, you need to follow the steps below:
Notify the International Student Office of your Foreigner ID (YU) number for your information to be updated.
Go to the nearest PTT Branch and get an e-Government password (e-devlet şifresi).
Then log in with your password to www.turkiye.gov.tr.
Find the service "Yabancı Uyruklu Öğrencilerin GSS Başvurusu ve Takibi" (GSS Application and Follow-up for Foreign National Students) from the search box and click on the "yeni başvuru yap" (make a new application) link to submit your application.
A few days after making your application, visit the same page again to ensure your application has been approved.
Then go to
, log in with your e-Government password, select the "Diğer Tahsilatlar" (Other Collections) and "GSS Prim" (GSS Premium) options, and make your payment by entering your YU number starting with 99.https://www.turkiye.gov.tr/sosyal-guvenlik-sosyal-guvenlik-kurumu-kart-i... Within 30 days of making your payment, obtain an eligibility certificate (müstehaklık belgesi) from
(The document must include the phrase: "Müstehaktır, provizyon alabilir." - "Eligible, can receive provision.").https://www.turkiye.gov.tr/spas-mustahaklik-sorgulama You can submit this document, along with a petition, to the documents unit of the Ankara Provincial Directorate of Migration Management without needing to get an appointment date.
By law, students who have not applied for GSS within 3 months of registration cannot benefit from this right later. For this reason, our students are strongly urged not to neglect this process. In case of a change in department/program or stage of study (e.g., transition from an undergraduate program to a master's program), you regain the right to apply for GSS.
*Those who have a valid health insurance in Turkey through their parents or within the scope of bilateral agreements must submit a document showing this status from the Social Security Center to the Directorate of Migration Management.
