Our Faculty Member's Publication Achievement at Q2 Level
The academic study, co-authored by our faculty member Dr. Tuba ÖNCÜL ABACIGİL, Head of the Department of Plant and Animal Production and Faculty Member in the Olive Growing and Olive Processing Technology Program at Balıkesir University (BAUN) Edremit Vocational School, and international academics, was published in the June 2025 issue of “Ecology and Evolution,” a Q2-ranked journal that is among the highest quartiles in global international journal rankings.
The scientific paper, titled “Taxonomic and Trophic Groups Mediate Latitudinal Variation in Saproxylic Beetle Species Richness and Body Size Across Western Palaearctic Oak Forests,” examined the latitudinal gradients in species richness and body size of saproxylic beetles found in 28 old oak forest sites stretching from the Eastern Mediterranean to Norway.
The study's findings revealed that the species richness and body size of saproxylic beetles differ latitudinally, that these patterns are shaped by both phylogenetic and trophic factors, and highlighted the importance of considering family and trophic level differences in conservation strategies.
Dr. Tuba ÖNCÜL ABACIGİL, who has been conducting entomological research in the Kazdağları National Park since 2006, stated that many similar studies will continue to contribute to our country's conservation strategies and biodiversity.
