The 1st Academic Olive Harvest Festival, organized under the coordination of the Directorate of Balıkesir University Edremit Vocational School and in cooperation with the Edremit Olive Cultivation Institute, was held with high participation.
Organized under the leadership of the Director of Edremit Vocational School, Prof. Dr. Gülşen AYDIN KESKİN, and the Director of Edremit Olive Cultivation Institute, Prof. Dr. Muammer BEZİRGAN, the event brought together academic knowledge with Edremit’s deep-rooted olive cultivation culture.
Held on the campus of Edremit Vocational School, the festival was attended by Rector of Balıkesir University Prof. Dr. Yücel OĞURLU, Governor of Edremit Zafer ENGİN, Mayor of Edremit Mehmet ERTAŞ, Edremit Chief Public Prosecutor Dr. Medet AKCAN, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Cevdet AVCIKURT, Prof. Dr. Murat DOĞDUBAY, and Prof. Dr. Fatih SATIL, members of the senate and executive board, academics, and invited guests.
The program began with an olive harvest prayer, after which Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel OĞURLU and the accompanying participants took part in the olive harvesting, experiencing firsthand the entire process from picking olives off the branch to crushing and olive oil production stages. While tasting olive oil produced from the harvested olives, participants witnessed the journey of the olive from the branch to the table.
As part of the program, keşkek prepared using traditional methods was also served to the guests.
Successfully conducted with broad participation and great interest, the 1st Academic Olive Harvest Festival contributed to bringing together the university’s academic knowledge with the culture of olives and olive oil—one of the region’s key assets—while strengthening cooperation among the university, public institutions, and local stakeholders.
We extend our gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the organization of the event and to all our guests for attending.
